Working with paint comes from a lifelong compulsion to engineer the abstract elements of colour, line, and rhythm, and to create harmony and disorder in the relationships between them. Using interlocking shapes and body forms, I construct the balance that dominates my compositions. I then look to disrupt these stable frameworks in ways that reflect my theme- the misalignments and imbalances that are part of human relationships.

My figurative paintings represent people in the act of working together or striving towards a shared goal. Their progress is unstable, glitchy - collective success seemingly out of reach, shared endeavour sometimes threatened by its own momentum. The interaction between the figures, and their environment carries reference to both the precarious beauty and the flux that exists in our daily lives, and within the wider world . 

Mine is an ongoing investigation into our human need for cooperation and collaboration, and our struggle to maintain that state of being.
